Key Renovation Tips

1) Living Room Master Piece

The standout feature of the home is clearly the entire Japanese-styled backdrop of the living room, with two shoji doors flanking it. And how it was created was very creative as well.

The owner recognised the potential of the long rectangular dumb-bell shape living room that they had.

They then cleverly constructed 2 false walls on both sides, creating a recessed niche in the middle.

This recessed niche is the reason why the living room bottom storage looks so natural! Imagine without it, the bottom storage will be “sticking out” weirdly.

More importantly, now the homeowners can build the 2 doors at the side, in front of the recessed niche. Not only does it create a stylish focal point for the living area, it also cleverly hides two separate doors on either side: one leading to the kitchen, and the other to the bedroom hallway.

It’s a brilliant example of the impact thoughtful design and smart space planning can have on the final look.

2) Elevated Washing Machine

A small but thoughtful upgrade in the home was the decision to build an elevated platform for the washing machine.

By raising it to the torso level, instead of it sitting on the floor as usual, the homeowners no longer have to constantly bend down when loading or unloading laundry — making the chore much more comfortable and ergonomic.

This is such a simple design tweak, but it is so ingenious!
