Own a Cat? This is What You Need to Know

This home tour is a must-see for cat lovers.

At first glance, the home feels cozy, dark wood cabinetry and light beige finishes paired with bold coloured furnishing, creating that clean contrast.

But what makes this renovation stand out - The ID didn’t just design for the owner, he designed for her cat.

So here are some things that we thought will be important to share!

Watch our tiktok if you lazy to read.

1) In-Built Cat Tree

Most cat owners will buy a cat tree to let their cats jump here jump there exercise and play abit.

This ID went one step further.

He built an in‑built climbing system directly into the carpentry.

This carpentry wraps around the bomb shelter all the way into the platform / headboard.

From the external niche, the ID carved out little arch holes so the cat could slip inside.

Behind the doors, both cabinets were cleverly connected, creating a hidden passageway where the cat could jump, walk, and explore.

The journey ends at the top of the headboard, giving the cat a perch with a view.

This ended up to be the cat’s favourite hiding / playing spot.

2) No Soft Fabric

Around the house, the owner kept fabrics and carpets to a minimum knowing full well that cats + soft furnishings = disaster.

See the bean bags? The owner literally said “if dirty, i just throw away”.

No curtains are in the house as well (see pt 3).

This is also the reason why the platform was built as well, to replace traditional sofas where they might be easily scratched.

While cats are clean animals, minimising soft furnishings is still recommended.

3) Cat Mesh

In case you didn’t know, cats can jump.

That’s why the homeowner installed these all-in-one sliding cat mesh to protect her cat and block out sunlight.

These cat meshes are typically charged by square feet. For the whole house, the homeowner paid close to $4,000!

What we do for our pets <3

In fact, under that Animal and Veterinary Service (AVS) Cat Management Framework, it is mandatory to take reasonable steps in preventing your cat from falling from height or roaming.

4) Bold but Cohesive Design

And while the cat features steal the show, the rest of the house deserves a shout out too.

My favourite is the deep green subway tiles in the master bathroom!

These subway tiles are getting much more popular these days based on our interaction with homeowners!

Our Thoughts

This house was carefully designed not for the homeowner, but for her cat.

In fact, the cat was probably the main benefactor of the reno!

I think often we hear “oh if got pet then this one cannot that one cannot” but this is just one of the many designs that prove that with some careful planning and the right ID, so many things are possible all without compromising on comfort, quality and design.
