Should You Buy Things For Your Neighbour Before Reno?

Happy neighbours, happy reno.

A couple, Sean and Kelly, recently gained quite abit of traction for what they did before their reno.

Before hacking started, they went around giving all their neighbours $10 NTUC voucher!

Watch our tiktok channel if you lazy to read.

One neighbour posted about it on Facebook, and somehow it ended up on Mothership (don’t ask us why lol).

This simple act is very classy.

But beyond being classy, this move is damn smart.

We really recommend doing this.

Why This Matters

Renovations are messy. You’ll always have last-minute work that drags past 5pm, the “deadline” that work is supposed to stop each day. Sometimes even up till 7 or 8pm just to finish up.

This is where human psychology comes in.

It’s like a peace offering upfront.

  1. Neighbours might get annoyed when they hear reno noise past 5pm.

  2. But if you give them a small token, they will probably keep quiet and let you do your thing.

Your aim is to make sure your reno goes smoothly. You deal with your ID good enough already. You don’t want to deal with your neighbours reporting you.

With this token, they are way less likely to.

And if they still complain for no good reason after taking your gift?

At least you know these are the kind of neighbours that you should steer clear from.

It’s the Thought that Counts

Now, you might be thinking: “Okay i’ll do it but wah, $10 times all my neighbours… that’s like $200?!”

It doesn’t have to be cash/vouchers.

Some people give chocolates, others fruits. It’s really about the 心意 — the thought that counts.

Then again if you’re already spending $50k on your reno, that extra $200 is nothing compared to the peace of mind you get.

You want to be remembered as the guy who “walan eh k****** 8pm still drilling” or the guy who “gives $10 coz he reno-ing scared disturb us, so nice”

Remember that chances are, you’ll be staying here for awhile.

TLDR

Before your reno starts, give a small gift to your neighbours.

It will appease them especially when you need to chiong your reno beyond working hours.

Vouchers, chocolates, fruits - just give them something.

It’s the thought that counts.
