Plan Your Reno, Plan Your Baby

So this is a recent BTO home tour that we covered on Youtube.

It is as neutral, as timeless, as you can get for a BTO.

But this week’s tip from this home tour is actually slightly different.

It isn’t related to the house, but is sooooooo important for couples.

Watch our tiktok channel if you lazy to read.

A showcase of timeless and neutral design, this home belongs to a loving couple who just had their new baby boy.

The couple wanted something that was safe and would stay fresh for years.

But more importantly - to take the reno off their hands, because the wife was pregnant.

So we referred them to Michael who delivered these muted tones, clean lines, with a baby-proof layout.

But the key takeaway here is to plan properly when it comes to baby and reno!!

In Singapore, often home purchase, marriage, reno and baby-making are intertwined.

Try not to be pregnant when doing reno. You will go mad.

It’s not just the physical stress of going to a construction site with the dust, noise and smell. Its also the mental stress to deal with the house, your partner, the ID, while taking care of yourself and the baby.

For this couple it was still not too bad, the reno lasted from October to December, and the baby arrived in May.
Not the worst, but if you can avoid it so that you are not running at 200% overload capacity, why not?

We can’t emphasise enough the number of times we have seen couples who are pregnant or have a newborn having to deal with the stress of renovation, it is really a spark for quarrel.

TLDR

The toughest part of renovation for this couple is arguably handling reno and pregnancy together.

If you’re expecting, plan your renovation timeline carefully.

Avoid overlapping with the final stretch of pregnancy.

Handing things off to a reliable ID helped this couple, but it’s still a tough balance.
