Soundproofing: The Most Common Solution

In light of recent events, let’s talk about something important: Soundproofing.

There are a few solutions, but let’s cover the most commonly used method.

If you are planning to erect a room for loud high‑pitched activities that you don’t want people to film or hear (iykyk), ask your ID for Rockwool.

Watch our tiktok channel if you lazy to read.

What is Rockwool?

Often when homeowners have a big living room, they want to create a separate study room (or “study”).

IDs will then use partition board to build this room because it is economical and fast. Two boards go up, and voilà—you’ve got a wall. But inside? Hollow.

This is where rockwool comes into play.

Rockwool is basically compressed mineral fibres that are formed into boards.

Slip it between the partition boards, and the wall will dampen sound that pass through it. Without it, whatever noise you make inside we guarantee outside will hear.

How much does Rockwool cost?

Rockwool comes in different densities, from 40kg/m3 to 100kg/m3. Often only those between 40-80kg are used. Of course, the denser it is, the stronger the soundproofing, but also the more expensive it will be.

But we’re not talking crazy numbers.

You should expect between 30-50% increase in cost, not 2x or 3x that some IDs like to exaggerate.

For example, if the ID quotes you $500 for a normal partition, including rockwool should land you around $650-$750.

It shouldn’t be like $500 for normal, and $1,000 for rockwool.

But tbh if we knew the implications of noise leakage, we’ll gladly pay the extra any day :D

TLDR

Rockwool is the most common method for soundproofing.

It is used to dampen sound between partition walls.

It comes in different densities - the lower density will cost 30% more while the higher will be 50% more, not 2x or 3x as some IDs claim.
