Why is My Shower Screen Green?!
Ok guys, fun fact: glass is NOT as transparent as you think it is.
It’s green.
Not a defect. Not a scam. Just science.
Watch our tiktok channel if you lazy to read.
We found this comment on the shower screen to be quite prevalent among our homeowners, so let us explain why.
The Science
I purposely wore a white shirt.
As I shuffle in between the shower screen, notice how my shirt colour changes (see our tiktok for the actual shuffling).
This green tinge is because of the iron compounds inside the glass.
During the melting and manufacturing process of glass, there are iron compounds involved, most common being iron oxide - which naturally gives it a greenish tint.
The thicker your glass, the greener it will look.
And this applies for all your glass, whether it’s shower screen, backsplash, or even window.
What if I don’t like this green tinge?
If you’re particular about this, tell your ID that you want crystal clear glass.
Crystal clear glass uses low or minimal iron compounds in the manufacturing process, resulting in it looking (uhhh) crystal clear. Of course, this comes with a higher cost.
A normal shower screen will cost you around $300-ish, but for crystal clear its almost 2x the cost (1.8x to be exact) at around $550 - $600.
Lastly, it is important that this is also crystal clear (HAHA) in your quotation.
Else the default will be the normal glass. Once again, green is not a defect.
TLDR
If you see green, don’t tekan your ID, its normal.
If you mind the green tinge, check your quotation and ask for crystal clear glass.
