Dryer vs Steigen
Let’s settle this once and for all. You’re renovating, and a classic first-world question pops up:
Dryer or Steigen?
Watch our tiktok channel if you lazy to read.
Both cost around $1k+.
Both solve the same problem - drying your clothes.
Dryer obviously is much easier. You just throw your clothes in, you don’t even need to hang them.
But the real issue? Nobody talks about shrinkage.
Washer + Dryer
Steigen (Compressed)
Steigen (Drop-Down)
1) The Shrinkage Problem
Let me show you.
Not even 10 rounds in the dryer, and one of the Uniqlo Tee clearly shrank.
This shrinkage is due to high heat pressure applied on wet surfaces, together with the tumbling of the clothes, which results in the threads becoming tighter.
Different clothing materials will have different degree of shrinkage.
But nevertheless, just imagine your carefully-sized suit, or your Gucci dress.
Is the convenience worth?
2) The BTO Space Problem
Nowadays BTOs don’t have enough space to elegantly put a washer and dryer side-by-side.
If you want to put it side-by-side (i.e. elegantly), you need at least 1.3m in width and 0.6m in depth.
Assuming you don’t hack, you can’t do it for the service yard as (i) the width is too tight (ii) and it will protrude out due to pipes behind.
Which means you have to put washer and dryer on opposite sides.
This leaves a weird gap on both sides, not very efficient isn’t it?
But interestingly, the Steigen fits perfectly in the service yard as it is installed at the top.
3) Other Considerations
Cost shouldn’t really be a concern. They are both ~$1k (of course, there are other brands outside of Steigen that are cheaper).
Generally speaking, a dryer usually uses more energy.
TLDR
Buy a dryer only if
You are lazy
Your clothes aren’t expensive
Your house has space
Just don’t say I never warn you when your korean oversized style fit turns into crop top.
