How Textured Walls Made This BTO Different

Most people think BTOs after a while all look the same.

Minimalist, scandi, japandi, cozy vibes.

This homeowner liked those vibes, but also wanted something different to showcase their personality.

So these are 3 things that they did / got for their 4-room BTO!

1) Dumbbell Layout

They didn’t create it. Surprisingly, their BTO unit came with a dumbbell layout.

Living room in the middle, not the standard “living room at the side + 3 bedrooms in a row.”

This already opens up so much opportunities and flexibility in design. Already a win.

2) Playing with Textured Surfaces

This, we feel, was the main differentiator.

They went bold with textures.

Forget plain painted walls, they added different types of wall surfaces across the house.

Our favourite was this rockstone feature wall! It doesn’t just look good. From afar, this feature wall catches light unevenly, turning what would be a flat surface into something alive and dynamic.

The cost for doing it isn’t that crazy as well. On average, a textured surface costs between $10-$15 psf.

For this rockstone wall, the owner paid around $1,500 for it, not too crazy for you to consider it right?

3) Concealing Common Room

Normally homeowners will knock down the wall separating the common and master bedroom to enlarge the latter.

Not this homeowner. As they wanted to preserve the various rooms for the future. But they still wanted a bigger space in the master.

So they merely shifted the common bedroom entrance inside the master, and used it as their sleeping area. The original master bedroom then became a giant walk-in wardrobe.

Their rationale was that they didn’t need that much space for sleeping, the common bedroom suffices, and the master room can be better utilised.

This is unconventional, but nonetheless a neat situation for people who want a larger master but retain the original rooms for future needs.

TLDR

BTOs can look cookie cutter, so this homeowner used these small changes to make it look different.
